Mucha Goes Medieval!
Project Title: Mucha Goes Medieval
Project Start Date: January 20th, 2025
Project End Date:
Project Description: Where do I begin with this one? Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) is one of my all-time favorite artists. Prolific during the Art Nouveau period, Mucha was in fact one of the main design influences at that time. One of his works, “The Four Seasons” (1896), has been on my mind for years; always at the edge of my thoughts. (hold this thought reader)
Recently, I have also been keen on the idea of bringing fantasy/medieval clothing into my modern wardrobe. The knightcore aesthetic is very adjacent to cottagecore, and honestly, that’s just where I’m at right now. I’ve wanted to make my own armor for some time now, and finally decided this was the year to learn chainmail.
These two seemingly disparate ideas collided with each other in the shower, “I want to follow the story of a Knight through the seasons of his life, by recreating medieval versions of ‘The Four Seasons’!”
The brainstorm and hyperfocus that followed was immense.
Please follow along as I create lore AND garments over the course of 2025, and bring this story alive!
Spring: The young knight. Page of cups. Naive. full of hope and excitement. Step one of the Hero’s Journey. Romantic. Soft. Gentle.
Aspects of this first outfit are: A chainmail hood, a pair of linen braies, and an undertunic.
